President's Message
John Perez

Fellow Rotarians,

I am very proud of the response we had in our last service project. Last week, we completed Our third service project of this year, the Rotary Club Thanksgiving Day's Turkey Giveaway, which was a complete success. We provided 62 turkeys among a group of very deserving organizations in the City of Springfield that serve the less fortunate. These are the recipients of your generosity:

  • Friends of the Homeless and The Gray House – 5 turkeys each

  • Open Pantry Community Services – 40 turkeys

  • All Souls Parish and Blessed Sacrament Church in the North End – 12 turkeys.

The total impact or ROI of our project was a total of 350 to 400 residents. It took a total of 20 hours of volunteering time to complete this project.

I am grateful to all Rotarians and friends for your generosity; Alan P. and Colony Care at Home, Jack T., Ellen F., Sue M., Maurice P., Michael K., MaryAnn H., Robert D., Bert C., Rick L, Roland H., Allen G., Samalid H., Stephen J., Ed S., Mike Z., my wife Nancy, and our friend, Rich Rediker.

The generosity of our members and friends made this project possible. Thank You.

We are excited and looking forward to our next service projects.

Here is what we have in the Service Projects Pipeline:

  • A donation of 300 individually packed toiletries sets of shampoo and conditioner to Friend of the Homeless.

  • A new batch of disposable masks possibly will be available soon to be donated by Club.

  • A coat drives for teenagers and adult coats to The Gray House - Kristen McClintock Executive Director, shared with us the need for adults' and teenagers' coats.

Again, Thank you for answering my calls, for your donations, and your support.

In service,

John David

A message from Marc Glass, District Governor 20/21

As the holidays are upon us, I would like to wish you, your family and friends a safe, healthy and happy holidays.

There is great news that a vaccine is close by and hopefully we can be face to face ASAP.

Have patience and we are in this together and we as Rotarians can handle anything that comes our way.

Three District Governors (Myself, Ron Webb, and Tony Marmo) and their team have been meeting with Toastmasters on the Rotary International collaboration. This is a positive step forward in meeting new friends who can potentially be members in your club.

You might have heard that there is another wave of Covid masks that will be available to clubs, for them to distribute in their areas. It won’t be the same where we had two locations to pick them up. It will probably be in my office and at that time I can also give clubs their theme pins in which I have had since late March.

Each club will have the opportunity to publicize the event on their own and hopefully promote the reason to join Rotary. If you are interested, please contact DGE Joanne Alfieri. More to follow on this.

I am happy to announce that all paperwork has been sent and approved by RI, Christine Burns will be your District Governor for the years 23/24. I and the rest of the team are looking forward to working with her. She will have a great ride.

With the unexpected resignation of Chairwoman Lucy Hurston, we are looking for a chair for the District DEI committee. Please contact me or any of the District team with questions or inquires.

During DGE Joanne Alfieris’ year the district is in need for a few great people to be Assistant Governors for area 8 and 5 and maybe 2 and 3.

Area 8 is currently Randy Chapell who will be the DGE.

Area 5 is currently Bill Hall and Area 2 and 3 are Christine Burns who will be the DGN.

Please consider helping your District and volunteering for this position.

Dates to Remember:

December 17th District wide trivia night. The first 500 people who sign up will be playing. Look for an email that day to join. Time will be 6:30 to make sure you understand how to play, and the actual game starts at 7. It will be a great social event during this time.

January 15 & 16 or January 22 & 23: Pre-Pets for AGs and President-elects. You choose either dates. Please contact DGE Joanne for info.

March 11,12,13,18,19,20: NEPETS for incoming and Presidents that are staying for another year. All are required to attend as well as the AGs.

Details will follow.

Again, I am always available if anyone has any questions or concerns.

Thank you for all you do in the name of Rotary.

A message from Kate Sims, PDG Board Member, Interval House

In an effort to make the holidays somewhat celebratory in today's environment, I wanted to put a request out of a need to victims of abuse and their children this year.   As you might be aware, The Interval House is a non profit organization dedicated to providing awareness and safety to those who are facing domestic violence.  As you can imagine, during this pandemic the rate of homelessness, food insecurities and domestic violence has sky-rocketed to an all time record high.

The Interval House is dedicated to providing services to prevent and break the cycle of family and intimate partner abuse, also known as domestic violence. We strive to reach all persons at risk and bring about social change.  'During this pandemic we can no longer provide donations or gifts (toys) as we all face the reality of exposure.

With that said, we are collecting gift cards for the families affected and being protected and looking for your support individually or as a club. The gift card needs are the following:
1.  Stop and Shop
2.  Shop Rite
3.  Big Y
4.  Target's
5.  Walmart's etc..
We thank you in advance for making a contribution to the Interval House and to donate you can do one of the following:

1.  Send Gift Cards to the following:
Interval House - C/O Amanda Delaura
     PO Box 340207
     Hartford, CT 06134

2.  Directly donate on line at the Interval House

MESSAGE FROM ROTARY INTERNATIONAL

Three ways to support our Rotary Foundation

Every November, we celebrate The Rotary Foundation. Your support and generous gifts to the Foundation make it possible for us to be people of action and engage in life-changing projects worldwide. Here are three ways you can help maximize the effectiveness of our year-end giving campaigns and increase the amount of good we can do:
  1. Encourage your members to make a gift to the Foundation on Giving Tuesday, which is 1 December. Share our video message
  2. Give the gift of Rotary this holiday season. Share our digital flyer with members and potential donors.
  3. Learn more about our new peer-to-peer fundraising tool, Raise for Rotary, where you can create fundraising pages that are easy to share with family and friends through social media and email.
