President's Message
Sue Mastroianni
April 26, 2019

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

I hope all of you enjoyed a wonderful Easter or Passover weekend with your families and those who are dear to you. We had more “April showers” than we may care for but at least the flowers have started to bloom and it really feels like Spring.

This Friday, April 26th our speaker will be District Governor Kate Sims. Kate’s main topic will be the District’s Opioid Task Force. What it is and how Rotarians can get involved and benefit from it. I’m sure Kate will also mention the upcoming District Conference -May 4th in Danvers, MA and the District Assembly on May15th in Windsor Locks, CT.

The 2nd Annual Chalk It Up event is less than a month away on May 18th.There is still time to sign up sponsors or make a donation to the event. Steve Jablonski and Jack Toner are also looking for volunteers for that day. This is a great opportunity to have your business associated with Springfield children/schools, Art, and Rotary. A real trifecta! Please see the bulletin for more information.

We have a lot going on in our club AND in the District. Please invite a friend to join you this Friday and experience all that Rotary has to offer.

Have a great week.

President Sue Mastroianni

ROTARY BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES
We love to celebrate our fellow Rotarians!
April Birthday’s: Richard Fulkerson 4/4; Ellen Freyman 4/7; Seth Tenebaum 4/12; Ron Weiss 4/28  Congratulations to All!
TODAY IS...
April 26th is National Hug a Friend Day! Today is for hugging friends! Hugging has been around for millennia and is practiced by almost all cultures as a way to connect with others without using language. Hugs have traditionally been given in may scenarios: as a greeting or goodbye, for sympathy or congratulations, and for gratitude, support, and affection. The word "hug" seems to have come from "hugga," an Old Norse word meaning "to comfort." "Hug" was first used around 1610, to describe a wrestling hold. It began being used for its current meaning in the 1650s.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Dene Kimball could use a little help with displaying our Rotary flags at meetings. Dene is planning some extended vacation time soon and would like a few Rotarians to volunteer and put up the flags while he’s away (or give him a break now and then). The flags are stored at Max’s and only take a few minutes to put up or take down. Please talk to Dene about helping out. And thank you for your participation in helping to display our flags!
