This is my final President’s Message as your Club President. I cannot thank you enough for allowing me this honor to serve as your President. It has been an incredible year for our club and I am grateful for all your encouragement and support. I have enjoyed being President and appreciate everyone’s hard work on our fundraisers this year. Because of all our efforts, we were able to give away $10,000 at our Paul Harris/Community Awards event held last week. We also gave Paul Harris Awards to Rotarian Mike Tarby and his partner Bob Pelzek at PIP Printing for their contribution to our club throughout the years. It was an amazing evening and I am extremely proud of all of you.
I want to thank our incredible board of directors for all their help and support in keeping our club operations running smoothly. I am indebted to each and everyone one of them.
I know the momentum our club has had this year will continue as we induct Bert Carter as our new Rotary Club President for 2019-2020 this Friday, June 28th. Please join me on Friday for the “Changing of the Guard” and congratulate Bert and his 2019-2020 Board of Directors.

Our Paul Harris/Service Grants Awards Dinner, heldJune 18th at LaQuinta Inn was a wonderful success! There was plenty of good food and drinks and the room was still buzzing with conversation as we ended the program. The sign of a good party when no one wants to leave. Our club awarded a Paul Harris Award to Rotarian Mike Tarby and his partner Bob Pelzek at PIP Printing for their contribution to our club throughout the years. In addition, we awarded $10,000 in service grants (thanks to all your efforts) to Springfield Boys and Girls Club, The Gray House, Inc., Gardening the Community, Friends of the Homeless, Springfield Neighborhood Housing Services, Boys and Girls Club Family Center, Holy Cross Church/ Sandwiches for the homeless and Make-It-Springfield. Get Well Wishes for Jim Russell. Please keep fellow Rotarian and good friend, Jim Russell in your prayers. Jim was stricken ill last week and has been in intensive care for a week. He is starting to show signs of improving and his son Bob says they hope to move him to a regular room soon. Please sign a Get Well card for Jim at Rotary this Friday. He will be happy to know his Rotary friends are thinking of him.
The Springfield Rotary Club is scheduled to serve Dinner at Friends of the Homeless Shelter, 755 Worthington Street, Springfield, MA from 4:15 to 5:30 P. M. next Thursday, July 4th. Today is National Food Truck Day® National Food Truck Day was created to celebrate food trucks, and was started by DJ Rick McNeely of the Fishbowl Radio Network in Arlington, Texas. Food trucks vary in the type of foods they prepare and sell, from ice cream to frozen or prepackaged food, to meals prepared from scratch. Celebrate to the day by getting something to eat from a food truck!
Dene Kimball could use a little help with displaying our Rotary flags at meetings (as Richard Fulkerson is doing in the attached photo). Dene is planning some extended vacation time soon and would like a few Rotarians to volunteer and put up the flags while he’s away (or give him a break now and then). The flags are stored at Max’s and only take a few minutes to put up or take down. Please talk to Dene about helping out. And thank you for your participation in helping to display our flags!
