For those of you who were not able to attend this past meeting, you missed a fun and entertaining dialogue with Hall of Fame inductee, Jack Sikma. Jack shared with us his life since basketball as well as amusing anecdotes from his playing days. He kept coming back to his theme of giving back, aka; Service Above Self. Thank you, Paul Lambert for arranging great this speaker.
This week we will continue collecting toothbrushes to send to Cambodia. Cathy Donor, who spoke to the club a few weeks ago, has taken on as part of her work with Mary Anne providing tooth brushes and tooth paste for the same villagers we provide filters for. This is a commodity that they do not have access to and goes a long way toward improving health outcomes for the village. In her own words:
“I am hoping we can collect about 500 toothbrushes. We not only use them for the orphans in the village but give them to 150 Girl Guides in the village, and the parents of 400 very poor kindergarten children that I work with.”
Some members have already approached their own dentists who have been willing to donate some of their give-away brushes and toothpaste. There is also the Dollar Store. Let’s see if we can get to 500, or maybe more.
In Service,
Bert
