President's Message

I wish you are having a great and productive week.  Once more, I'm pleased to write this week’s president message, while our president Bert is on vacation.

Last week, the executive director of The Gray House, Teresa Liberti, a friend of our club, was our speaker.  The Gray House helps assist families in meeting their immediate needs addressing the root of poverty by operating a food assistance program, after school program and summer youth programming.

She presented us with photos of the changes that were possible by the grant we awarded to The Gray House at the Paul Harris dinner last May.   They now have a safe fenced space for the children to play outside.   It's always encouraging to hear about the impact our contributions have on the organizations of our community.

Teresa also pledged for volunteers to assist in their mission.  If you are interested, you may contact Teresa directly at director@grayhouse.org or calling at 413-734-6696 our own Sue Mastroianni at samastro@comcast.net.

Thanks to all Rotarians that had attended and supported us during the hot summer, no-tie-required meetings.

As every month, we are volunteering to serve dinner at Friend of the Homeless on September 5th from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Just a quick reminder.   We are raising funds to match grant we received to support our project to buy water filters for the villages of Phom Thom in Cambodia.  This year, we will provide clean drinking water for 300 hundred families.  Our goal is to raise $1,000 before the end of September, and the club will contribute $1,500 to match the District grant of $2,500.   We are $900 from reaching our goal.  Thanks to Valerie Dulute for her donation at the last meeting and everyone that had contributed to our project.   You may contact Richard, Mary Ann, or me for more information or your donation.

We are looking for interesting and engaging speakers for our meetings.  If you attend a conference or presentation, and the presenter was engaging with an exciting topic, please ask him/her/person-with-no-specific-gender (I want to include everyone) to be our speaker.  You may contact me at john.perez@consiliumopis.com.  Please check our online calendar for available dates.

Be well,

John David, Rotary Club Vice President

FRIDAY'S GUEST SPEAKER

CATHY DONER

After 37 years in the banking industry, Cathy was laid off due to job elimination in September of 2018.  This resulted in a blessing in disguise.

Confident with her self-developed skills as a custom cookie artist, she decided to "take the 'n' out of banker” and obtained her Cottage Kitchen license and started her own business.  She named her business C’Sweets and started in January 2019.  The primary challenge she found was the amount of time it took to decorate the works of art she creates.  She had spent 9 hours decorating one dozen cookies, but her mantra has always been that she learns something new every day and she is confident she will succeed.

Cathy resides in Enfield, CT and I raised two children on her own, Robert and Alyssa, and she is proud that they are both successful adults.  Her life and stability are centered in God.  She has been blessed with the opportunity to assist with God's mission of love and service by participating in humanitarian trips to the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and the past two years accompanying Rotary member Mary Anne Herron to Cambodia.  She is looking forward to the third year traveling with Mary Anne to Cambodia in October.
