Wm. Travaun Bailey to speak at Springfield Rotary April 16th Wm. Travaun Bailey, President of the Hampden County Bar Association will address the Springfield Rotary Club's luncheon meeting this Friday, April 16, 2018. Bailey will discuss the significance and relevance of the Hampden County Bar Association and his role as the first African American President. The Hampden County Bar Association is a volunteer organization of lawyers representing the legal profession, serving lawyers, the justice system and the public. It provides professional support and education to members, and advocacy on behalf of lawyers, the judiciary, and the public. Attorney Bailey participates in the Hampden County Bar Association’s Lawyer on the Line Program, Massachusetts Bar Association’s Dial-A-Lawyer Program as well as the Springfield District Court Lawyer for the day program and the Springfield District Court Drug Court. Attorney Bailey is a graduate of Elmira College, B.S. in Elmira, NY and the Western New England University School of Law in Springfield, MA. He is the Owner/Sole Practitioner at the Law Office of Wm. Also, this Friday, The Basketball Hall of Fame will make a check presentation to our club from proceeds from the 2017 “Service Above Self” luncheon. The DA gave the club an update on his involvement with the opioid crisis and his education prevention work initiatives. DISTRICT ASSEMBLY What is the Purpose of the District Assembly?- To prepare incoming club leaders for their year in office and build their leadership team
- To give the district governor-elect and incoming assistant governors and district committees the opportunity to motivate club leadership teams and build their working relationship
- Provide members of Rotary clubs the opportunity to learn more about the different programs of Rotary and to have the opportunity to become involved at club and/or district level
- Provide a fellowship experience for the members of the different Rotary Clubs of District 7890.

The Story of Chalk, 11 am-3 pm What is chalk? How is it formed? How is color added? Learn how sidewalk chalk is delivered from the bottom of the ocean into your hands, and even make a stick of chalk of your own to take home. Live Animal Demo, 11 am-3 pm Meet the reptiles that call the Springfield Science Museum home and learn about their adaptations, diets, and behaviors from one of our experienced museum educators. Animals may include the ball python, milk snake, bearded dragon, box turtle, and painted turtle. Art & Animals Scavenger Hunt, 11 am-3 pm Explore the collections of the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts through paintings and sculptures of our furry and feathered friends. Look for art by Picasso, Currier & Ives, Roesen, and many more. Find 10 and get a small prize. Art Discovery Center, Noon-4 pm Trace Chinese characters, try on costumes, play gallery games, peek under lift-up panels on the Wall of Symbols to discover the meaning behind Asian motifs, put on a puppet show, and make an art project. The 2019 Rotary International Convention will take place June 1-5, 2019, in Hamburg, Germany. This is sure to be an excellent opportunity to enjoy fellowship and learn more about Rotary. Our incoming District Governor, Kate Sims, will be attending a planning convention in San Diego very shortly. Kate wishes to obtain a rough count of those who are interested in attending the 2019 Rotary International Convention to discuss with other Governors. Costs are not determined at this time, but Rotarians are responsible for flights, accommodations and Convention fees.
