At our first 2016/2017 Board meeting Sue Mastroianni coined the term, “Rotary is like finding a friend you have never met,” no matter where you are located in this world. Sue, this is so true! We continue to make new friends and have several applications for new members in the works. Chair of the Membership Committee, Pam Mulumphy, and 1st Vice President, Lamont Clemons, are on it and we look forward to welcoming these new members. Thank you to our Board for helping to outline and clarify our new membership procedures so we may speed up the process.
As you know, the Object of Rotary is service "through the promotion of high ethical standards; service in one's personal, business and community life; and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace." We continue to search for ways to make a positive difference and to bring the community together. Rotary Foundation Chair, Dene Kimball and Club Member Samir Patel are working on a fundraiser for this coming spring 2017, which will be an Art Walk Chalk Festival in downtown Springfield…keep up the great work and we look forward to hearing more! I hear they are even looking to close a street!
Also, Service Committee, Chair Alicia Garcia, is underway with working with our newest member, Brennan Roy, who has taken the reigns of updating and lead to make changes to our Club’s website. Thank you Alicia and Brennan!
Our Operations Team is underway and held their first meeting thanks to new Chair Sue Mastroianni. She brought the team together to share her vision for the Operations team in 2016-2017 Year. She even made homemade chocolate, marshmallow and peanut fudge for the committee and shared the rest at our meeting! Sue is searching for a photographer who can take pictures at our meeting each week. If you want to volunteer, please see Sue.
JULY SPEAKERS:
We have a great lineup of speakers for July. On Friday, July 22, Jeffrey S. Morneau, President of the Hampden County Bar Association (HCBA), will speak about the issue of BAIL for those charged with crimes; drug courts; and the impact of Judges on the community thanks to Paul and Brian Sears. On Friday, July 29 we will have Mary Cassidy from Goodwill thanks to Dr. MaryAnne Herron.
OUR GOALS:
This year, the Rotary International theme is Serving Humanity. I am excited in how we continue to enhance our Club members’ experience through fellowship and service. Our continued focus is to serve by giving the gift of time, talent, and knowledge to improve lives in our communities and across the globe. Through Rotary, we can take these gifts and make a genuine difference through our 2016/2017 goals which includes eradicating polio, clean drinking water and WASH initiatives, growing membership and fellowship, service above self event, recognizing others through Paul Harris awards, service grants to local Springfield charities, RYLA, and mentoring school children. Plus, this coming Spring we will hold a Springfield Chalk Art Walk Trail Fundraiser. Also, I am excited that will be creating a Rotaract Club for young women at Bay Path University.

The 2015 - 2016 T.R.F. Campaign began in September 2015 with a presentation to the club, followed up by a letter requesting contributions ($100) to each member.
Throughout the year (2015 - 2016) five minute T.R.F. updates and info. talks were made at each meeting, along with recognition of those who had contributed.
In April 2016 a "statement" letter was sent to the 30 members who had not yet made a contribution, requesting any amount would be greatly welcome.
In June 2016 we sent checks to Rotary International totaling $4,986 to SHARE and $1,208 to Polio Plus. Of the 59 members, 45 contributed a total of $6,194 to the Foundation.
On August 1st, 2016, the District 7890 golf tournament is taking place at Twin Hills Country Club. The cost is $125 per player for lunch, 18 holes of golf, cart and a dinner. Non-golfers are encouraged to attend the dinner portion for $35. Jack Toner is organizing foursomes from our Club to participate. Please let him know if you plan to play on August 1st at Twin Hills. Rotary Club of Springfield Elects New President and Board of Directors
The Rotary Club of Springfield elected their new President, Laurie A. Rosner and Board of Directors for the 2016-2017 Rotary year, at their June 25th meeting.
Rosner is the Chair of Undergraduate Business Programs and Assistant Professor of Management at Bay Path University. She is a double Bay Path alumna, undergraduate and graduate in business.
Rosner is an experienced executive, professor, entrepreneur, and community leader. She led the overall marketing and branding of a community bank at the level of Senior Vice President for over 20 years. She was part of the executive team who brought the bank from $285 million to $2 billion with public trading on NASDAQ Global Select Stock Market. She has received numerous marketing awards on branding and innovation and has been a guest speaker locally and nationally, including Stamford University Faculty Club. She is the owner of a local marketing, business and leadership strategy company called A Story Making Company located in Enfield, CT.
Rosner taught for several years at Bay Path University in the MBA program with a focus in management, marketing, leadership and strategy and was honored with a Distinguished Teaching Award there in 2013.
Most recently, Rosner is working to launch a Springfield Rotaract Club for undergraduate women at Bay Path University. She is also a past President of the North Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce.
She lives in Enfield with her husband, Gary, who is a frequent visitor to the Club. Rosner says her mission “is to inspire others to believe in themselves so they transform into the leader they are meant to be.”
