THIS FRIDAY’S MEETING, MARCH 3 – OFFSITE
Remember, this Friday’s meeting will be held at the Willie Ross School for the Deaf at 104 Nevins Street in Longmeadow. We will follow the normal time for our Rotary meeting (12:15-1:30 p.m.). WRSD is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year and Bert Carter will make a short presentation on the history of WR and the students will also be making a presentation.
THANKS FOR CELEBRATING ROTARY’S 112TH FIRST MEETING ANNIVERSARY!
 This past Friday, February 24, we celebrated Rotary’s 112 th anniversary! On February 23, 1905 marked the 112 th anniversary of the first Rotary club meeting. We celebrated Anniversary style with raffling off an Edible Fruit arrangement. Thank you to all of you who bought a ticket to celebrate, which will go to our service fun! Congratulations to Dene Kimball who had the lucky ticket!
LAST WEEK’S GUEST SPEAKER – OPERATIONS COMMITTEE UPDATE
We had another great meeting this past Friday, February 24, 2017 where we welcomed Larry Snyder, PhD, Professor and Program Director for both graduate and undergraduate Cybersecurity programs at Bay Path University. He talked about privacy, security and technology - what does this mean for our privacy and security. In addition, Larry talked about security on our personal computers, debit and credit card security and knowing who our friends are on Facebook. He has nearly 2 decades in law enforcement, fraud and auditing in the US Army and a variety of industries, and twelve years teaching cybersecurity.
Larry was instrumental in developing the cybersecurity program for the State University of New York’s Herkimer County Community College, one of the first cyber-crime programs in New York State. Under his leadership, it obtained national certification from the Information Assurance Courseware Evaluation (IACE) and the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS). His background also includes positions in major United States banks as a manager of fraud operations and senior information systems auditor. He is a founding member of the National CyberWatch Center’s Curriculum Standards Panel, charged with producing the nation’s first curriculum model standard for cybersecurity education.
Larry is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, IEEE Computer Society, Comptia Academic Alliance, Infragard, and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association.

CLUB FINANCE UPDATE
Thank you for your participation in the Club and your payment of 2016-2017 dues which cover July 1 2016 – June 30, 2017. Member dues work to support both local operations of the Springfield Club and offset some of cost for support received each year from Rotary International and Rotary District 7890. If you have not yet paid your Club dues in full for the 2016-2017 Rotary year please mail a check to the Club, pay in person at any regular Club meeting, or pay online through ClubRunner. Your support and involvement is much appreciated and makes such a tremendous difference to the positive impact on the community from Rotary. A feature available to you on ClubRunner is the ability to look up your prior invoice and payment history for Club Dues, fundraising contributions, etc. ClubRunner typically does not include information on lunch payments, happy dollars, or raffle ticket purchases but does include most other transactions. To see your payment history log in to ClubRunner and from the main page – select “My Billing Account Balance”.
I also wanted to remind Club members that we have a number of lunch payment options available each week at the regular meetings. Payment by cash or check is accepted and we also accept major credit cards. Another option is to prepay for lunches on a quarterly basis. No reason to let worry about payment options stop any member from attending a meeting. Also please note that our lunch provider, Max Catering and Events, uses the number of plates taken to arrive at the lunch count they bill the Club. Occasionally you may have need to take a second plate. When that happens please let myself, or Sue Mastrioanni in my absence, know so we can ensure a corrected lunch count.
