President's Message

Bert Carter

As my year as president comes to a close, I am struck by the resilience of our club.  This year has thrown us several curve balls. The Springfield Rotary has risen to the occasion.  We are still together. We are still strong.  Our club is made up of amazing individuals who together can support each other and the community around us.

In spite of the pandemic, we are still planning to award $10,000 in grants.  We had successful fundraising events including our biggest SAS Luncheon to date.  We found ways to make a difference in spite of stay at home orders.  We continued to meet weekly and even added a Happy Hour to our regular meeting.

I could not be more proud of our accomplishments this year.  The Board has stepped up under difficult circumstances and steered the club.  We have added some great new members who have jumped in to the fray.  Most of all we have all supported each other through fellowship and caring.

Springfield Rotary is “beneficial to all concerned”

Yours in Service and Fellowship,

Bert

WEEKLY REFLECTION

COMMUNITY GRANTS

This year due to the pandemic surrounding Covid-19, the Springfield Rotary Club will NOT be conducting their annual Paul Harris dinner in June.

The club decided that with the great difficulties surrounding our community, the Springfield Rotary Club would continue to provide their annual grants to support local Springfield organizations who are making a positive difference!

The maximum request for each grant is $2,000.  Non-profits with a 501c3 status are eligible to fill out an application on the Springfield Rotary clubs website  https://forms.gle/HyLWi9Y3Kq5M7erP6. For application questions, please email Rotarian Alicia Garcia at alicia.garcia022@gmail.com

Organizations may use the grant for any capital improvement project related to combatting the current Covid-19 pandemic.

10th Annual Service Above Self Luncheon

On Thursday, June 11th 2020, John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame and Frank Colaccino, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Governor; CEO of the Colvest Group and Committee Chair of the Westfield Bank 2019 Service Above Self Luncheon Committee presented a check for $6,500 to The Rotary Club of Springfield. This is the largest contribution The Basketball Hall of Fame has made to the Springfield Rotary Club since the inception of the Awards luncheon 10 years ago.

The contribution was from the proceeds of the 10th Annual Service Above Self luncheon held at the Hall of Fame last November. The Westfield Bank 2019 Service Above Self Award Winners were local honoree the Jimmy Fund Golf Committee of Western Massachusetts. National honoree were Bob & Chris Hurley, for living out the Rotary motto “Service Above Self”.

The Rotary Club of Springfield is planning to award $10,000 in grants to Springfield-based non-profit organizations that benefit the Greater Springfield Community virtually in July, 2020. This year all grant projects will relate to serving the Springfield Community during the Covid-19 pandemic.
