In order to support the efforts in our community to begin the recovery from the current pandemic, Springfield Rotary Club will be focusing our annual grants program on those efforts.
Organizations which are addressing the needs created by the pandemic as well as organizations addressing other needs in the community and have themselves been impacted by the pandemic should look for our application on our web page soon.
I hope to see many of you this week, either at our Wednesday Happy Hour or at our regular Friday meeting.
Denise M. Gloekler, PT, DPT, PCS, cNDT, Director of Rehabilitation, Motion Analysis and Sports Health and Medicine at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Springfield, MA will be our speaker this Friday, June 5, 2020. Denise’s topic will be Shriner’s Motion Analysis Lab.
The Motional Analysis Lab can determine how or why a child has a problem walking. The patient has small magnets placed on their body and a camera picks up each movement. The cameras then transfer this into an “avatar” type figure which allows the doctors to assess the patient’s needs. By looking at the “avatar”, the doctors are able to diagnosis the next best step for the child. Rehab or surgery, which they try to avoid.
Denise received her Bachelor of Science degree, distinction in physical therapy, from the University of Connecticut in 1979 and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Franklin Pierce University in 2010. She is board certified in pediatrics through the American Physical Therapy Association and certified in the Neurodevelopmental Treatment Approach. She has devoted her career to pediatrics, working in hospitals and in public school and private settings. During her career, she was an adjunct professor at Franklin Pierce University and an associate professor at Hesser College.
