Last Friday, we had a wonderful meeting with our Member Spotlights on Jack Toner, Dene Kimball and Ellen Freyman. We learned that Jack lived and worked in China for 4 months; Ellen is a longtime Bruce Springstein fan (groupie?) and Dene carves wood whenever he can. Thank you to all three for sharing more about yourselves with us.
Jack and Steve Jablonski gave us a presentation on the 2019 “Chalk It Up” event, scheduled for May 18, 2019. Jack walked us through the website and showed us how easy it is to sign up sponsors. Chalk It Up brochures are available and were handed out. And if that wasn’t enough for one meeting, we also picked the next seven prizewinners for our raffle, which is always exciting.
This Friday, we’re taking our meeting on the road to the Irish Cultural Center (ICC) located at 429 Morgan Road in West Springfield. So wear a little bit of green as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a wee bit early!
We’ll also pick the next seven raffle prizewinners.
You don’t have to be present to win, but it’s certainly exciting if you are!
Have a great day and hope to see you at the ICC!

March 15th is National Shoe the World Day! Each day, over 500 million children, teens and adults around the world do not have a pair of shoes to wear, and despite the terrain and the climate, they have to walk barefoot everywhere. It is a struggle each day that we cannot begin to imagine. Having to live a daily life without protection on your feet can lead to a lifetime of problems including pain, injury, cuts, sores, infections, parasites. Visit Soles4Souls to donate shoes. National Shoe The World Day is a day created to bring awareness, to everyone across the nation, of the incredible need to help those people around the world that do not have shoes to wear and then to take action in helping. Use #NationalShoeTheWorldDay to post on social media.

Last Friday, we had a Member Spotlight on Jack Toner, Ellen Freyman and Dene Kimball. We learned that Jack worked and taught in China for 4 months after college. Ellen has been a Bruce Springsteen fan since 1971 and has worked as a Census taker, Avon lady and dog walker prior to becoming a lawyer. Dene has a love of wood working and recently carved a Native American “Talking Stick” which he brought with him (see photo). We thank Jack, Ellen and Dene for sharing some of their life experiences with us.

Dene Kimball could use a little help with displaying our Rotary flags at meetings. Dene is planning some extended vacation time soon and would like a few Rotarians to volunteer and put up the flags while he’s away (or give him a break now and then). The flags are stored at Max’s and only take a few minutes to put up or take down. Please talk to Dene about helping out. And thank you for your participation in helping to display our flags!
