GUEST SPEAKER THIS FRIDAY Mike Abramson, Assistant General Manager for The Hartford Yard Goats will address the Springfield Rotary Club's luncheon meeting on Friday, March 31st. Mike’s topic will be “Professional Baseball in Hartford is Good News for Springfield”. The Hartford Yard Goats are a Double-A minor league baseball team in Hartford, Connecticut in the Eastern League. The team was founded in 2016, when the New Britain Rock Cats, a Colorado Rockies affiliate, relocated to Hartford, Connecticut. The Yard Goats are scheduled to move into Dunkin' Donuts Park on Main Street in Hartford, at the beginning of the 2017 season. Construction delays forced the team to play the entire 2016 season on the road. Mike is in his 11th season in Minor League Baseball, and 5th as Assistant General Manager with the organization. Mike oversees all sponsorship & ticket sales for the team, and handles marketing strategies and activation. Prior to joining the Yard Goats, Mike spent six seasons with the Pawtucket Red Sox; Triple-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Mike began his career in sales with Sports Radio WEEI; then the highest-rated sports radio station in the country. Mike lives in Chester, CT with his wife Allison and daughters Emma, Sophia and Clara. Rotary members meet with EU officials to examine Rotary’s role in achieving peace More than 240 Rotary members and other guests gathered in Brussels, Belgium, on 8 March for Rotary at the European Union, a special event that explored how Rotary and the European Union can work together to achieve peace. The meeting was the first of its kind at the European Union (EU) and was modeled on the tradition of Rotary Day at the United Nations. Rotary members, EU officials, and business leaders at the two-hour event asked how business and civil society organizations like Rotary can work with the EU to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and build more peaceful and stable societies. |
