President's Message

Dear Fellow Rotarians

We will be closing out 2015 for the Rotary Club of Springfield with a Holiday Lunch this coming Friday, December 18th.   Dee and the Rock ‘in Rotarians are planning a holiday program for us all.   Jim Russell, party planner extraordinary will be arranging for a cake.  Please bring your spouses and guests to help celebrate with us.

We will be drawing prizes for our membership drive and you must be present to win.  Thank you to Gary and Laurie Rosner for donating the LG 32" LED TV LF5600 TV, Scented Yankee candle, Bushnell Powerview             binoculars and Brookstone Big Blue Live Wireless Speaker.   If you have brought in a new member or brought a guest to a meeting, your name has been placed in the raffle.  I want to thank Bob Dambrov for bringing Mike Cooley into the Club and Valerie Delude for bringing Brennan Collins into the Club.  Thank you to Samir, Sue M and Paul Lambert for bringing new potential members as guest during the drive.   Thank you to Steve Jablonski who is working on bringing in a member from PeoplesUnited Bank for January.  If I left anyone out, please speak up because I don’t want miss anyone.  Beyond supporting The Rotary Foundation, the primary goal of each Rotarian is to bring the gift of Rotary to others.

Mike Glenn, our 2015 national Service Above Self Honoree, sent his thank you to our club.  Mike Glenn gave Rotary a great plug on his Atlanta Hawks game coverage later in the day.  Click here to see the National Honoree Mike Glenn and Local Honoree Henry Thomas commenting on receiving the awards.   http://wwlp.com/2015/12/04/service-over-self-award-given-in-recognition-of-community-service/.   Please be sure to pay any outstanding invoices to the Hall of Fame.   The faster Rotarians and their guests pay of the luncheon, the more quickly we will receive proceeds to support our Service Fund.

Thank you to our recent contributors to The Rotary Foundation, Mike Walsh, Mike Rzepka, Steve Jablonski, Allan Popp, Bob Russell, Laurie Rosner and Mike Cooley.  So far we have $3,661 to the Rotary Foundation and $225 to Polio Plus from 23 Club Members.  Ivan Butterfield has kept me up to date on global polio cases.  Currently, there are 22 cases globally amongst a global population of over 8 billion.

On Thursday, May 12th 2016, we will be awarding Paul Harris Fellowships and giving out grants for capital improvements to local charities here in Springfield.  If you have an affiliation with a local charity, please consider suggesting that they apply for a grant.  The 2014 recipients were Suit Up Springfield, Head Start, Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield, World Affairs Council, YOUMAG, Open Pantry, STCC, Boy Scouts of America, The Willie Ross School for the Deaf and Spirit of Springfield.

On behalf of myself and Elizabeth, I wish you and your families a blessed and joyous holiday season.

Jack
