The last 12 months have been a privilege, to be trusted with helm of the Rotary Club of Springfield. The global reach of Rotary brings a whole new level of gravity to leading a local service Club. As President, one has a chance to not only lead individuals who enter each day with the premise that engagement with others leads to the best outcomes but also to have the tools to do so locally and globally through Rotary. As local Club Presidents, we exchange ideas with fellow Rotarian leaders from all corners of the globe.
In our community, so many individuals and Rotarians alike benefit from the many fellowship opportunities in our Club and in the Springfield area as a whole. Our Club supports our local Friends of the Homeless and also benefits from opportunities to attend events like the the East Longmeadow Club’s free outdoor concerts and the Enfield Club’s May road race.
Globally, we collaborate in our District and with Rotary International to fund projects to strengthen the fabric of Rotary International in our collective effort to improve the quality of life for each global citizen through hands-on projects. In exchanging ideas a President Elect Training Seminars (PETS) with fellow incoming Presidents, I learned how the Manchester, CT Rotary engages with a community in Guatemala on clean water just as we are expanding our engagement with the village and Cambodian Medical Clinic. The willingness of Rotarians to roll up their sleeves and get in the trenches reinforces to me the quiet and humble nature of our members.
Again, I truly appreciate the opportunity to be entrusted with the office of President of the Rotary Club of Springfield. I have learned a great deal from each of you. As part of a global society in a fast changing world, let us continue to be a voice of generosity, humility and words in action to benefit all global citizens.
Rotary International has selected Raptim Humanitarian Travel as its official travel management company.
The connection between Raptim and Rotary will allow them to offer more services and support to those traveling on Rotary business.
"In selecting Raptim, we found an agency that shared our DNA and understood how best to meet the needs of our volunteers and staff," says Robert Mintz, Rotary's global travel manager.
Rotarians will work with Raptim to arrange Rotary-related travel through Rotary International Travel Service, known as RITS, beginning 24 June.

You could call Laurie Rosner a "rising star" in Rotary. It would fit her in at least two ways: she is a private airplane pilot, and she will become president of our Club this Friday, June 24th after serving as a member for just twenty-seven months.
She has been an impact player on our Rotary leadership team since joining and the hallmark of her success, like so many successful people, has been that she shows up regularly and delivers on her promises. Despite a passion for golf and a busy academic and professional schedule, her attendance record consistently ranks near the top. When asked to become part of the rebuilding of our club three years ago, she stepped up---and delivered as an activist member and chair of the committee which oversaw the weekly meeting "experience" for our members.
She served as a Senior Vice President for over 20 years with a community bank, leading its overall marketing and branding. During her time there she was part of the executive team which brought the bank's assets from $285 million to $2 billion with public trading on NASDAQ Global Select Stock Market.
Laurie has received numerous marketing awards and has been a guest speaker locally and nationally, including Stamford University Faculty Club. She is the owner of a local marketing, business and leadership strategy company called A Story Making Company located in Enfield, CT.
She taught for eight years at Bay Path University in the MBA program with a focus in management, marketing, leadership and strategy and was honored with a Distinguished Teaching Award there in 2013.
Most recently, Laurie is working to launch a Springfield Rotaract Club for undergraduate women at Bay Path. She is also a past President of the North Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce.
She lives in Enfield with her husband, Gary, who is also well known to most of our Club. Her mission, she says, is to inspire others to believe in themselves so they transform into the leader they are meant to be.
This Friday she becomes the leader of the Rotary Club of Springfield and will be sworn in at our regular meeting by outgoing President Jack Toner. Just before swearing Laurie in, Jack will recognize the outgoing officers, committee chairs and members of our Board. In her first act as President, Laurie will then swear in the new officers, chairs and board members for our Club's 2016-17 year.
On Friday, June 24th, 2016, we will be installing Laurie Rosner as our new Club President for 2016-2017 and our new Board of Directors. She will also assume possession of the Rotary Club of Springfield's President's Chain, engraved with the names of each person to hold the office since the Club was founded in 1915.
One unique facet of Rotary is every twelve months from the Rotary International President all the way to each local Club President, there is a total change of leadership. As a global service organization, the system provides a method of perpetuation to prepare each new leader over the two years prior to assuming their office in the Club, District or Rotary International Level.
Please come help give Laurie a strong send off into her presidential year.
On August 1st, 2016, the District 7890 golf tournament is taking place at Twin Hills Country Club. The cost is $125 per player for lunch, 18 holes of golf, cart and a dinner. Dene Kimball and Sam Patel met this past Saturday to discuss this proposed new project. They visited Symphony Hall and City Hall in downtown Springfield to consider them as proposed sights for the chalk art project. They are now in the process of setting up a meeting with Mayor Dominic Sarno to discuss the project. Dene will be reaching out to the Naples Florida Rotary Club about their similar event to discuss and share best practices with us for our event.
